California Continuing Education Requirements

Continuing education requirements for mental health professionals licensed in California.

• LCSW: 36 CE hours every 2 years, including 6 ethics hours — 36 hours per 2-year renewal including 6 hours Law and Ethics. One-time suicide risk assessment (6) and telehealth (3) courses; HIV/AIDS (7) at first renewal only.
• LEP: 36 CE hours every 2 years, including 6 ethics hours — 36 hours per 2-year renewal including 6 hours Law and Ethics. LEP first-renewal-only courses are Child Abuse Assessment and Reporting (7) and Alcoholism and Other Chemical Substance Dependency (15).
• LMFT: 36 CE hours every 2 years, including 6 ethics hours — 36 hours per 2-year renewal including 6 hours Law and Ethics. One-time suicide risk assessment (6) and telehealth (3) courses; HIV/AIDS (7) at first renewal only.
• LPCC: 36 CE hours every 2 years, including 6 ethics hours — 36 hours per 2-year renewal including 6 hours Law and Ethics. One-time suicide risk assessment (6) and telehealth (3) courses; HIV/AIDS (7) at first renewal only.
